Umberto Gandini asked UEFA if they could add a "Wild Card" team to CL entry

Gandini: "The revenue from the European competitions are too important to miss. There should be an opportunity to qualify in a broader way. If you're not able to stay at the same level in terms of investments into the squad then you pay a big price because the lack of playing in Europe means a big reduction in your spending ability."

"Every year there are big clubs that miss out on the CL, so maybe there should be a wild card or a play-off for them. I would like to see an opportunity for wild cards or a different route for clubs that have the ability, prestige and the size to compete in the Champions League."
