In an interview with ANSA, Thiago Silva says he wants to show that “one club players still exist in football.
"We won the title and the Super Cup and now we’re top of the table as we wanted to be. I’m delighted with 2011. It’s tough playing every three days and sometimes I’m so tired I don’t even want to train. But it’s the life I wanted and I can’t complain. I got some rest in the sun in Brazil.”
He captained the side for the first time on 27 November. The last foreigner to have that honour was Nils Liedholm in 1961. Is the much loved Brazilian ready to take over from Ambrosini? “Until recently, I had no desire at all to be captain. Then I captained Brazil and I changed my mind. When Allegri told me, I thought he was joking. Pato and Antonini have both played more games than me. Now I want the armband. I feel like a leader. Ambrosini, Seedorf, Gattuso and Abbiati are ahead of me, we’ll see what happens in the New Year but I’d like to be the first foreigner to captain the team in 50 years. When I wear the armband, I change completely. Antonini knows how much I shout on the pitch but I’m quitter as captain. I know I have to be an example.”
When his contract runs out in 2016, he’ll be 32. Then what? “This is the best moment in my career. In 2016, I want to talk to Galliani and sign for another 5 years. We’ll see. The goals? When I score my game always gets better. I scored 14 goals in three years for Fluminense. This is my third year with Milan and I’ve got 5 so that not a lot for me. Now the team trusts each other more. When I go forward, someone covers me to prevent a counter attack. I’ll try and get the most out of every corner we get.”
Milan have conceded 16 goals so far while last year they won the title conceding 24 goals in all. “I speak for myself. We wouldn’t have conceded the 2 goals in Bologna if Id been more focused. I lipped up a lot in that game. Allegri wants more focus, often against the smaller teams; we don’t have the same concentration levels as we do against teams like Barcelona. But the defence is everything, if we don’t concede, we’re sure that we’ll score at the other end. Tevez is a great player as he showed in Brazil and England. He’d fit in well with our forwards.”
Will Milan get past the last 16 in the Champions League? “The games against Barcelona have given us confidence. Even if we lost we showed at the San Siro that we can play better than we did at the Nou Camp. The training we did was vital. Allegri showed us how we could press them without them getting past us. Now there’s Arsenal, a tough adversary. We’ll have to be very focused. After winning the title, the Champions League is my dream, along with the World Cup. For 2014, the pressure will be on us and we have the responsibility to win. With hard work we’ll get there.”
Thiago Silva lives on Lake Como in Adriano’s ex home and some time ago the police came to his house to tell him to turn the music down: “I don’t like going out at night to clubs. For my birthday, my wife organised a party that I didn’t even want. Plu sit was 6 in the afternoon, not the morning. The news came out after the game with Barcelona, while my birthday is on 22 September. Ai Se Eu Te Pegò? I’m angry with the singer. We made his known in Europe and what does he say? That his dream is to see Messi dance to his song…”/acmilan.com/
