Milan made it very clear at the end of the last season, that the objective this year is to do better in the Champions League, in other words, pass the eight-finals stage for the first time since winning the cup.
The Rossoneri shared a group with Barcelona, and Milan managed to take a point away from the Camp Nou and played well at the San Siro despite a 2-3 defeat. Galliani believes Milan are getting to Barca.
“We are not far from Barcelona. It seems to me that the team that has caused the most trouble and made it most difficult for Guardiola’s squad, in the first part of the season, was my Milan and not Real Madrid,” the Milan Vice President told Studio Sport, in an interview with the respected Italian journalist Carlo Pellegatti.
The year is about to end, and Galliani recaps it. “There have been trophies, beautiful games and emotions like the one after Pato’s goal in the opening minute of the derby last year or the comeback in Beijing for the Supercoppa… and also the transfers: I’m a better and smarter now, I took Nocerino, but 15 years ago Galliani would had gone to England to take Fabregas for 40 million,” said the No. 2 in the via Turati club.
Speaking of transfers, Milan are on the market for Carlos Tevez. The Rossoneri submitted their offer, and it was rejected. Manchester City are ready to loan the player with an obligation, but Milan’s offer won’t be changed, says Galliani: “We’ve made our offer, a free loan with right of redemption, and we’re not going to change it. They refused our bid, but sometimes at first an offer is reject it and after a month it’s accepted.
“I have promised to Carlitos that we’ll try to get him until the last day of the market.” With Tevez on his way, it could mean the end of Filippo Inzaghi at Milan while there are talks about a Stephan El Shaarawy loan.
“El Shaarawy remains at Milan, even if Tevez arrived, since the Argentine can’t be used in the Champions League,” Galliani said, hinting that the Milan youngster will be included in the list. “Inzaghi? I’m very attached to him, like Silvio Berlusconi. We’ll see what happens and whether Allegri puts him on the list.”
Galliani is expected to meet Manchester City for Tevez in the next days before the team goes to Dubai, as he wants to close the deal for the striker, which will probably bring Milan one step closer to Barcelona.
