Allegri: "I think the match against Genoa will be tough for us"

Massimiliano AllegriHere’s what Massimilano Allegri had to say at press conference for the match against Genoa:

"I think the match against Genoa will be tough for us because besides being a good team, Genoa also put in high level performances at home, especially now after the loss to Cesena. It’s an important game for them tomorrow, we’ll have to be ready, aware of the difficulties and play the game looking to get the three points.

We definitely have to improve our performances away from home, especially in terms of goals conceded. We’ve two away games now and starting from tomorrow, we need to try and not concede. We did that in Florence and we’ll try to do it again tomorrow. Malesani’s teams are always well organized and it’s always tough to play in Genoa because of the support that their fans give to the team. They’ll play an intense game. We’ll have to play well technically tomorrow and we’ll need the right competitive spirit necessary to win the game.”

“Napoli-Juventus confirmed what Juventus showed in the first games of the season. They’re the only team still unbeaten and came back from two goals down against Napoli, which is not an easy thing. They were title contenders at the start of the season and that position has now been strengthened. The team is doing great things. In our last seven, we’ve won 6 and drawn one. I think they’ve got 4 points less than that because after the game in Turin, we were 6 points behind them and now it’s only 2. It was important to close that gap and we did it.

We have to try and continue. Now we’ll need to do all we can to catch up with them. Obviously, if they keep on winning, it’ll be tough, but there’s still a long way to go.”

“Ibra’s performances are the same with Pato as with Robinho because they all know who to adapt their game to suit the player who’s by their side. Ibra’s in great form at the moment, like all the others and regardless of who he plays with, that doesn’t change."

“In the middle of the field, I have to evaluate Van Bommel. He was a bit fatigued and has an inflamed knee. It’s not likely that he’ll start. For the left side of midfield, I’ll decide today.”

“I try to goad the players into action when possible, but that’s not really necessary when you have a group of professionals who never shirk, even though some players have played more than others recently. I played Yepes on Sunday and he had a good game. The same goes for Bonera who has always done well when called upon. This makes is easier to choose the team because all the players are ready when called upon.”

“All players feel the need to play and all players want to play, but obviously I have choices to make. There are technical considerations. The important thing is to have everyone on side, both those that play and those that don’t. I think that by the end of the season, they’ll all have played their part.”

“I’ve read and heard a lot of different things lately. The team still has five games to play before the break and we have to stay focused on that. At the start of January, I’ll evaluate with the club what needs to be done.”

"I think Inzaghi has to stay at Milan because I think in the course of the season he’ll make some space for himself. Obviously though, if a player is not happy, then that’s something the player should think about with the club.”

On BTP day: “It’s a good initiative. In this difficult moment for the country it’s right that people play their part and it’s good that players and coaches don’t hold themselves back.”

"On an aesthetic level, we’ve improved. The players know each other better. I’m more attached to them as well but there’s still space for improvement and you have to try and get better every day. We played a great game in Florence. Of course we could have done better, especially with our finishing but I’m very happy with how the players are doing and I think we’ll go into the next four league games with the right spirit.”/acmilan.com/
