Allegri: "Tomorrow’s game will be anything but simple"

Here’s what Massimiliano Allegri had to say in his press conference before leaving for Rome:

"Tomorrow’s game will be anything but simple. Roma are playing very well. They did well on Wednesday and didn’t deserve to lose. They’re tough to play against and we’ll need a good performance both in terms of technique and dynamism. All the players want to play. It’s a match that could be decisive for the title, a head to head.

We’ll have to play with dynamism and make sure we bring home a positive result because here are only two games left before the break and we have to be close to the top position before the break. There are three points up for grabs tomorrow and we’ll be playing for our fourth win in a row. We have to get to the break in the best possible position on the table because we started a bit late.

Roma bought well and the team is now passing from one generation to the next. They’ve bought young, technically gifted players. Luis Enrique is getting his ideas across.

The players are almost all fine. Van Bommel should come back tomorrow in place of Ambrosini. I’m undecided between Robinho and Cassano. Antonini is out with an ankle problem. Nesta will be back in and I’ll have to choose between Taiwo and Zambrotta. Abbiati is doing very well.

We’ve conceded 8 goals in 3 games but we did better in the last game. I think we’re on the right track but we need to eliminate the mistakes in the defense and when we’re building up the play. There’s no doubt that in order to win the title, you need the best or the second best defense in the league.

“Seedorf did well in training yesterday but having been out for 25 days, one training session seems too little to call him up.”

“Aquilani played a good game against Parma. He came close to scoring twice and brought order to our play. Ambrosini played a good game and I think that bit by bit, he’s getting back into shape. Van Bommel needed a rest. They’re both good players, very reliable but they play in the same position. If one plays, then the other doesn’t. “

“All our players need to stay put because the league is long and I’ll need all of them. In the last week, I saw an in-form Inzaghi. If he’s not called up it’s just because the other players are in better shape than him. There’s no problem with Pippo. I wouldn’t sell anyone from this team, for me Pippo will be useful as the season goes on.”

“I think that to bring Inzaghi with us and then leave him in the stands would be a bit disrespectful. I make my choices for the good of the club because in the end what counts is Milan independently of Allegri or any individual players.

We have to get more points on the table. We’ve won against the smaller teams which is positive. That’s a very important point. We’ll have to do better in the head to heads in the second half of the season. What counts now is tomorrow. We need a positive result because it’s important for us.”
