Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has insisted that Antonio Cassano will have an important role to play in 2011-12.
The Italian international’s future is in doubt given that he isn’t guaranteed a first team shirt, but Allegri is adamant that he wants to keep him.
“He is a player that both the club and myself are counting on,” Allegri said after Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Malmo in which Cassano scored.
“Cassano did very well against Malmo and he’s reaching a good physical condition. He just needs to stay calm because he doesn’t have any exams to pass here.”
The Azzurri attacker gave his side the lead in a game that the Rossoneri eventually won on penalties following a 2-2 draw.
“I thought that the team would be a lot more tired after the work we had done over the last few days, instead I saw a good performance,” the tactician added.
“I made a lot of changes and at one point there were a host of players who were playing out of their natural position.”
Allegri was also asked to comment on an ankle injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. “I’m not worried as I don’t think it is anything too serious.”/Football-Italia/
